The library - the oldest public institution of its kind in the country - in October 2009 will record 120 years of continuous activity. Originally founded to provide the museum with its scientific novelties, especially in agriculture and zoology, the library has diversified its catalogs with publications from various fields of the natural sciences, museography, history and ethnography of the country, with different albums, encyclopaedias and dictionaries , to currently hold 41,677 units of books, magazines, newspapers. Many of them come from donations made by some members of the Basarabian Society of Naturalists, museum collaborators, scientists from science and teaching staff. A rare historical and bibliographic value has the backdrop of rare books.
